Painful to let go

You die towards God, not to mom or family. I heard an anecdote of soldiers on their deathbeds after a battle who cried for their moms. This yearning for family and moms is very powerful, but doesn't last. Gandhi wanted the last words on his lips to be God. Without being mechanical, we have to move in that direction, but it is painful to let go of our families. Especially, for some, after it took a long time just to be able to appreciate them.

Letting go is harder for some people than others. For me, it's difficult to let go of the past, friends, relatives etc… Meditation when I do it, helps to be in the present, accept what is, let go of what was, and have trust in what will be…

All true. Understanding too is useful when not forced or flat. Our own patterns and just universal patterns are good to understand. Even philosophy, ie., why are we attracted to that which is destructive. All the disciplines, if not taken as gospel, come into play. Even so, our patterns are hard to change. Acceptance unto humility is often the case.
