Florida, Paul plan escape, friends plan to come
Paul, a Northeast lawyer working as a waiter in Boca Raton Florida wanted
to leave the state as soon as he could sell his depreciated house. We had
often talked about how unpleasant South Florida can be, the nastiness of the
people, the lack of manners and selfish behavior. It was the land of
doublespeak, catch 22, cultures from all over trying to get over, get what they
can, and return little. Those with plenty of money concerned themselves in
satisfying their own selfish desires. Life has been cheapened here and
worth less. If you participate here, work and interact, you see this
after a time. Paul’s visiting lady friends from up north didn’t want to
hear this, as they felt stifled and done and stultified in New England and were
ready for a change. Later, I ran into them and offered some words of
comfort, saying sometimes one does have to move to somewhere else, change the
setting, let go of the hypnotic pulls, and be good and make it happen where they
land. One lady was celebrating her birthday and Paul’s words had depressed
her, so these words offered some solace.
