Experience

I had a good talk with my dad when I turned 63.  I'm not sure what led
up to it.  He said you still have to experience things, even at his age,
93.  I think the discussion began when I was talking about art and
mentioning at this stage few will be around that I know to see the results of
what I am doing.  It was then that he said ‘even so, we still have to
experience life and continue to live and do what we do.  There is value in
just this.  Even though it is sad others we know won't be around to
appreciate it, we should continue because experience has its own intrinsic
value.’

Your dad is right, age doesn't matter when is comes to experiencing, discovering or living. Three years ago a older friend told me that taking up golf at my age and hoping to improve would be futile. It would have been easier for me to accept that but a higher power convinced me to practice harder. I have been putting in "smarter" practice time and have actually improved......another joy notched up.
Don't fret about where you are at any point in time.....just live in the present.
Regards,
Tom

Golf & joy of aging: Husband 87 years old and does not hit the ball as far as he used to but he scores below his age very often. Hard to do that when you are younger. His "putting" has gotten smarter. He is now thinking about taking up photography as a hobby should the time come that he can no longer play golf. Age??? What of it?

Boy....he's keeping it going. good on his health and vitality. Tom then is still a rookie.
I find sometimes 'experience' doesn't equate with activity. You can be active but not experience. A kind of 'soul' experience is subtle, and can happen anywhere, and one should be open to it. You can be washing dishes and have an major insight and its good that you were alive to have it. amen to experience. good for your husband.
