The effects of work today
I was talking to Eileen, a part time employee at a chocolate store about the nature of work today. She was originally from New York and married to a man in Florida. I said work seemed to demean you today, to put you down. It had an electrical energy that ran through the experience, maybe it ran through life today period. In other words it was charged. For instance at my part time job I was given one set of keys at work, why not two. If I lost the one set, a big deal would be made. Yet we, as adults, are treated as children and I was given one set of keys. This, however minute, added tension and stress to the day. Life, just like work, has silly rules and regulations today. They are petty and small minded, meant to keep you diminished. They upset a person, by draining and aggravating.
Eileen, who was normally ebullient, was feeling the effects of this that day, even though I forget why.
Because of the above, one often forms bonds with people and other workers to boost their self-esteem, so one feels one has some control, some power over being squashed arbitrarily. You do things to rebuild yourself which you might not normally do, just so you can regain your personhood. It is sad so much time is used just to get back what you've lost.
